Odisha stunned Bengal by seven wickets in the Ranji Trophy Group A match on Friday.

On the final day of the game, resuming on an overnight score of 220/3, Bengal’s second innings imploded as they were all out for 276. That left Odisha with a 112-run target, which they chased down comfortably in 22.2 overs.

Odisha pacer Sunil Roul was the star of the show, snaring six wickets to destroy the hosts. He had also taken three wickets in the first innings.

Bengal, who have already qualified for the quarters, had made only 100 in their first innings in reply to Odisha’s 265 and were made to follow-on.

Bengal would hope that this loss would not hurt their confidence going forward. “The boys did put up a fight, but we can count this as a bad day in office. We will surely fight back. The next match is a knockout and will be crucial. We will go all guns blazing to reach the semis,” Bengal head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla said after the match.

Bengal will take on Jharkhand in the quarter final, which will also be played at the Eden, beginning Tuesday.

Brief scores: Odisha 265 & 112/3 (Anurag Sarangi 37, Sandeep Pattnaik 28 not out). Bengal 100 & 276 (Abhimanyu Easwaran 101, Sudip Gharami 50, Manoj Tiwary 52; Sunil Roul 6/96). Odisha won by 7 wkts.
