Bengal will look to put their house in order and be clinical versus Hyderabad in their second Ranji Trophy group phase clash, beginning from Thursday at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

The team is in a good frame of mind after successfully chasing down a daunting target of 349 against Baroda in their opener. But irrespective of the come-from-behind victory, the 88 all out in their first innings is something Bengal haven’t forgotten. The team management is thus laying necessary emphasis on the batting front.

In other words, batting continues to be Bengal’s area of concern for more than a decade and over the last few years, it’s the inconsistency of the established batsmen and their inability to convert starts into big scores, which have been hurting them.

“Hyderabad have got all-rounders and they are playing good cricket,” head coach Arun Lal said. “I’ve told the guys it was a terrific victory (over Baroda) in which they showed great character. But it’s gone and we now need to focus on the next game.”

Lal said a call on the composition of the XI would be taken on Thursday morning.
