Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson is not setting any goals and wants to take one match at a time. “No long-term goals, just want to win as much as possible and contribute to team’s victory,” Samson said on Tuesday.

The Royals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 61 runs in their opening match in Pune with Samson scoring 55 off 27 balls.

“I'm working on my fitness, game awareness, understanding the conditions and choosing my scoring options. Not rushing... I would like to spend a lot of time in the middle knowing I can catch up anytime,” Samson said.

The 27-year-old added that he had offered some inputs to the franchise during the mega auction last month. “Yes I had some say. Having a leader like (Kumar) Sangakkara helped, he gave me the final option. Luckily, everyone, lot of cricketing brains, have worked together to get a good squad.

“I think every season we come with great dreams, it’s the franchise that takes good care of us. Our owners trust us, give us space. But we will take one game at a time.”

He felt the Pune wicket helped the pacers. “It was a very different wicket than what we thought. If you bowled Test match lengths, the wicket was helping fast bowlers.”

Prasidh Krishna, who impressed with two for 16, agreed. “There was some good bounce and seam. Hitting those hard lengths was helping me,” Prasidh said.
