The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is contemplating putting VVS Laxman in charge of the T20 squad while Rahul Dravid stays as head coach for the Tests and ODIs.
The move is aimed to reduce Dravid's workload and allow him more time to spend at home. Laxman is in charge of the ongoing five-match series against Australia.
The BCCI is still awaiting a word from Dravid before making any further move. There is talk that the Laxman option will be placed before Dravid and the brass is confident that he will accept their proposal, sources told The Telegraph.
Team India's performance in the last two years when they reached the top position in all formats and the way Dravid has become acceptable to the players has forced the Board to request the former captain to accept another term.
Laxman is expected to travel to South Africa with the T20 squad which will depart on December 6. This will also give BCCI more time to talk to Dravid.
The team selection for the T20I series will be held in the next couple of days. The Board, however, has completed the visa process for both sets of support staff — one led by Dravid and includes Vikram Rathour, Paras Mhambrey and T. Dilip while Laxman's team has Sitanshu Kotak, Sairaj Bahutule and Munish Bali.
