India head coach Rahul Dravid seemed pleased with how the players coped with the “spongy” drop-in pitch of the Nassau County International Stadium in New York during Saturday’s warm-up game against Bangladesh.

“It (pitch) was a little bit spongy at times, but I thought we coped really well. The batters had put an above-par score on that wicket and the bowlers came out and bowled really well.

“All in all, we got a run-around and to get a game here was really nice. Hopefully, we can prepare well in the coming days and be ready,” Dravid said in a video posted by the BCCI.

The ground in New York is on the softer side as the players could feel so on their hamstring and calves, Dravid added. “The ground is a bit soft, and the guys could
feel that on the hamstring and the calves.

“So, that’s the area we need to ensure that we’re working around and ensuring that the guys are looking after. It does feel a little bit heavy underneath,” Dravid stated.

Despite the challenges, Team India are adapting well to the conditions, agreed pacer Arshdeep Singh, who struck twice with the new ball in Saturday’s warm-up game.

“The ground is sand-based, so you need to get the rhythm right. It will be a challenge to adapt to the conditions here. But we’re adapting really well.

“The practice sessions were also there in the morning and everyone turned up and gave their 100 per cent, which we can see on the field as well. The focus is to play as a team,” the left-arm pacer said.
