The same applies for Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, two teams who can only get as far as 14 points, and will need a a host of other results to go their way.

Punjab Kings and RCB meet in Dharamsala on Thursday with the loser making their chances of qualifying more tougher.

Punjab may have only recorded four wins from 11 games but the results don’t tell how close they were in many of their seven defeats. They had pulled off the highest run chase in T20 cricket against KKR at Eden Gardens. Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma have been the most impressive though Jonny Bairstow has also looked equally impressive.

RCB will depend mainly on their top order to stay afloat in the playoffs race. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis’ opening combination hold the key for their chances.

RCB have been on a three-match winning streak. It began against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad before completing a double over Gujarat Titans.
