Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer has said their failure to bat and bowl well in the Powerplay overs cost them the match against Gujarat Titans on Saturday. Chasing 157, the Knights were reduced to 34 for three in the first six overs.

Earlier, the Titans were 47/1 in their Powerplay overs.

“We couldn’t have conceded that many runs when the wicket was doing a lot. The ball was nipping and the hard length was difficult to play. We lost it in the Powerplay. I think 160-165 was a good score on this pitch, but we did really well to restrict them to under 160,” said Shreyas.

“The boys pulled it back really well after the Powerplay with the way they came in and got the wickets. We have lost four in a row and three were close,” the KKR captain said.

“We came in with a lot of energy before the game. But unfortunately we are not able to execute the plans discussed at the team meetings. We are playing good cricket in bits and pieces. We haven’t played comprehensive cricket yet, just a matter of one game where we get the momentum from where we can keep going.”

Titans captain Hardik Pandya praised the team’s character. “It’s always important to close the games, which we are very good at, and the boys have stepped up and showed their character and backed their skills,” said Pandya, who didn’t take the field during KKR’s innings because of an injury.
