The playoffs goal accomplished with a top-two finish in the league phase, Kolkata Knight Riders have their eyes now on the coveted IPL trophy. Having won the title in 2012 and 2014, this will be their third IPL crown if Shreyas Iyer and his men win the final in Chennai on May 26.
What also bodes well for the Knight Riders is pacer Mitchell Starc gradually regaining his tempo after being expensive in the initial stages of his comeback IPL. According to the left-arm speedster, the Knights are determined to clinch the trophy this time.
"I'm excited to get involved here at KKR and hopefully, it will be a really successful season for us. We're here to get the trophy and that's what we're aiming for. And hopefully, we're going to do exactly that," Starc said at the Knights Dugout Podcast, where he was accompanied by England opener Phil Salt.
Starc also shed some light on his return to IPL after a long time. "It has been a while since I've been here... Was supposed to be here with KKR in 2018, but then, I got injured.
"So, it's exciting to be back and looking forward to the ultimate success."
The Knights will be missing Salt in their upcoming games as he had to return to England for the home T20I series against Pakistan, which is also a part of their preparation for the T20 World Cup beginning June 1. Before leaving for England on Tuesday, Salt urged his KKR teammates to "get the momentum at the right time.
"It's about taking it day by day, and hopefully, we put our best foot forward," Salt said.
