Manoj Tiwary on Tuesday said he had decided to reconsider his retirement, which he had announced last Thursday, to give “one last try for Bengal”.
Tiwary, 37, said that after discussions with wife (Susmita) and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly, he had decided to play another season.
Tiwary, who had captained Bengal to the final of last season’s Ranji Trophy, is yet to win the premier domestic title.
“I was going through a blank phase then which made me make such a move. But after talking to my wife and Snehasishda, both of who convinced me, I decided to change my mind,” Tiwary said at Eden Gardens.
“So, I’ll be playing one more season and only the red-ball format (Ranji Trophy)... Want to give it one last try and that’ll be it. I'm also sorry for not being able to convey my decision (to retire) to my teammates and the CAB.”
It will be quite surprising though if Tiwary continues to lead Bengal in the coming Ranji season. Sources said the team management prefers a new captain.
