Greg Barclay has been re-elected unopposed as ICC chairman for another two-year term after Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) chief Tavengwa Mukuhlani pulled out of the contest.

This will be the second two-year stint for New Zealand’s Barclay, who will now be in the position until 2024. The election assumed significance after Mukuhlani decided to enter the fray despite knowing Barclay enjoyed more support from the 16-strong ballot.

With only a simple majority needed, Barclay had the backing of more than a dozen directors, according to sources, including that of the all-powerful Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Jay Shah replaced former president Sourav Ganguly as the BCCI representative on the ICC board while Arun Dhumal will be sitting on the chief executives’ committee.

BCCI secretary Shah will take over as chief of the ICC’s finance & commercial affairs committee, which looks after the distribution of money to member-countries from the overall revenue pool.

The Shashank Manohar-led ICC had dismantled the Big Three (India, Australia and England) model in 2017, and put in place a new financial structure that enhanced the earnings of smaller nations. The BCCI has since been demanding a bigger share of the revenue.

Sourav will continue to head the cricket committee.
