India captain Rohit Sharma was clear in presenting the team's views on whether Mohammed Shami would be required in the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. According to Rohit, the team management will act only if people at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) give an update on Shami's fitness, especially as he has been having knee issues despite playing domestic cricket for Bengal.
"About Shami, I think it's high time somebody from the NCA talks about him, as he's doing his rehab there," Rohit said on Wednesday. "Those guys are the ones who need to come up and give us an update.
"I understand Shami is playing a lot of cricket back home, but there have been some complaints about his knee as well. So, the last thing you want is the player coming here and then pulling out in the middle of the game. You know what happens when that kind of thing takes place.
"So, there is no way we want to take that chance unless we are like, not 100 per cent, but 200 per cent sure. We're not going to take any kind of risk. But yeah, like I had said earlier, the door is open for him if the NCA guys feel that he's okay to come and play. We'll be happy to have him," Rohit explained.
