Mumbai Indians swatted away the challenge of UP Warriorz in the Eliminator contestto set up a Women’s Premier League Final date with Delhi Capitals.

Mumbai controlled the game at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Friday, their 72-run win narrating their tale of dominance. While Nat Sciver-Brunt was the star with the bat for Mumbai, seamer Issy Wong shone with the ball, claiming the first hattrick of the tournament.

In reply to Mumbai’s 182/4, the Warriorz were all out for 110 in 17.4 overs.

The Warriors faltered early in their chase as they were reduced to 21/3 by the fifth over. Captain and their biggest hope with the bat, Alyssa Healy, could contribute only 11 before becoming 20-year-old Wong’s first victim.

Kiran Navgire, daughter of a farmer from Solapur, Maharashtra, made an audacious attempt to bring the Warriorz back into the game with a powerful knock, but once she was dismissed for 43 off 27 balls, her team fell apart.

Wong, who can solve a Rubik’s Cube in less than a minute, claimed the wickets of Navgire, Simran Shaikh and Sophie Ecclestone off consecutive balls in the 13th over of the innings to complete her hat-trick. Wong finished with figures of 4/15.

Mumbai’s left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque, who hails from Calcutta,took two wickets. Earlier, Sciver-Brunt’s blistering and unbeaten 72 powered Mumbai to a daunting 180-plus total.

Sciver-Brunt was at her brutal best with the bat, clobbering nine fours and two sixes in her 38-ball knock, and certainly made the most of an early lifeline when she was on 6, with Ecclestone (2/39) dropping a regulation catch off Rajeshwari Gayakwad at mid-off.

“I have said thank you (to Ecclestone) for dropping me. She would usually take those, luck of the draw fortunately... Excited to make it to the final and hopefully enjoy yourselves,” the 30-year-old England Women batter said after being adjudged Player of the Match.

Mumbai captain Harmanpreet Kaur said: “We have a decent bowling attack, we were confident... Sciver-Brunt is someone who can take us through in any game, I am happy she did ittoday.”

“Delhi are a good side, we just want to enjoy the game and do well.”

The final will be played at the Brabourne Stadium on Sunday.
