Rohit Sharma wants to stay ahead of the bowler when it comes to batting on turning wickets.

“See, I think when you are playing on this kind of pitches you have to slightly stay ahead of the bowler as well,” Rohit said at the match eve media conference on Wednesday.

“ Before he (bowler) does anything, you are ready with what you want to do. It should be that kind of mindset. I’m just talking about me, not talking about anyone else. It’s how I approach... I cannot give you the entire detail of how I approach an innings because it won’t be right,” he said.

“Nagpur was a great example for me as well as to how I wanted to bat in the series. Also, before the series, we played a series against England. In that series, I got a hundred (161) in Chennai (second Test, February 2021) where the pitch was turning a little bit.

“I try to apply myself, try and do what I’m good at. You’ve to adapt to your strengths and it will be different from others. So I try and stick to my plans, my strength...”

Former coach Ravi Shastri’s assertion that the Indian team lost in Indore due to “overconfidence” was termed “rubbish” by Rohit, who minced no words while calling him an “outsider”.

“Honestly, when you win two games and people on the outside feel that we are overconfident, it’s absolutely rubbish because you want to do your best in all four games,” Rohit said.

“You don’t want to stop by winning two games. It is as simple as that. Obviously, all these guys, when they talk about being overconfident and all and especially when they are not part of the dressing room, they don’t know what sort of talk happens in the dressing room.”
