Matthew Mott has been appointed as the new head coach of the England limited-overs side, the country’s cricket board (ECB) said on Wednesday.

The 48-year-old Australian has signed a four-year agreement and will take charge when England face The Netherlands in a three-match ODI series next month.

Mott had been in charge of the Australian women’s side since 2015 and led them to back-to-back Twenty20 World Cups and also guided them to the 50-over title earlier this year.

“When this role became available, I was attracted by the chance to work with such a successful team,” said Mott. “The idea of the split roles and the chance to work alongside Brendon McCullum in his red-ball role is an opportunity that I am incredibly enthusiastic about.”

Bangladesh have edge

Bangladesh hold an upper hand in the first Test versus Sri Lanka at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. At stumps on Day IV, Sri Lanka were two down for 39 in their second innings and still trail by 29 runs after Bangladesh posted 465 in their first innings.

On a rain-affected day, Bangladesh, resuming on 318 for 3, continued with their steady progress as Mushfiqur Rahim (105) and Litton Das (88) had few problems in countering the Sri Lankan bowlers.

Mushfiqur went on to become the first Bangladesh batsman to register 5,000 runs in Test cricket.
