Afghanistan showcased another impressive run chase to beat a young Pakistan team by seven wickets in the second T20I with one ball remaining and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
It was the first time that Afghanistan won a series against a side among the top six in the ICC rankings.
Pakistan chose to bat first, but their inexperienced top order failed once again. Left-arm quick Fazalhaq Farooqi (Man of the Match) struck twice in the first over of the game, removing Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique off consecutive deliveries.
However, the recalled Imad Wasim smashed 64 not out off 57 balls and captain Shadab Khan scored 32 which took Pakistan to 130/6. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (44) and Ibrahim Zadran (38) led Afghanistan’s chase.
“It was a great effort... We have players to finish it like (Mohammad) Nabi and Najibullah (Zadran),” captain Rashid Khan said.
Brief scores: Pakistan 130/6 in 20 overs (I. Wasim 64 n.o.; F. Farooqi 2/19). Afghanistan 133/3 in 19.5 overs (R. Gurbaz 44). Afghanistan won by 7 wickets.
