Punjab Kings showed on Friday that no target is unachievable in T20 cricket as they cantered to an eight-wicket victory with eight balls remaining at Eden Gardens on Friday.
While Jonny Bairstow led the charge with an unbeaten 108 off 48 balls, Shashank Singh provided the finishing touches with 68 not out off 28 balls.
KKR captain Shreyas Iyer was effusive in his praise of the batters of both teams.
“The way the batters batted today was tremendous. So much you ask of them and they delivered. Both teams played tremendously. It was a treat for the eyes,” Shreyas said at the end of the match.
“It was brilliant to see Sunil Narine go out and strike the ball. Lot to learn from him, he’s the Most Valuable Player of our team... hopefully he keeps continuing with such performances.”
However, he didn’t wish to put the blame on any individual. “You have to go back to the drawing board and see where you went wrong. Not defending a total of 261 hurts but it’s a great lesson for the players,” said Shreyas. Punjab Kings stand-in captain Sam Curran was ecstatic. “Cricket has turned out to be baseball, isn’t it? We’re delighted with the two points. We had a tough few weeks as a team. Forget about the scores, we deserved this victory,” Curran said at the prize distribution.
Man of the Match Bairstow felt their opening stand was the deciding factor. “We got off to a good start and that was key,” the England batter said.
