The Kolkata Knight Riders will, in less than a fortnight, start assembling in the city with their pre-IPL camp beginning on March 21.
The Knights will begin their campaign against Punjab Kings at Mohali on April 1.
For the first three days or so, the Knights are set to hone their skills at the Jadavpur University Salt Lake campus ground before moving to Eden Gardens. Captain Shreyas Iyer, though, is expected to join the camp after the third and final India-Australia one-dayer on March 22 as he’s part of the India ODI squad.
After consultation with the Knight Riders, who are also the main sponsors of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB)’s Mayor’s Cup inter-school tournament, the final of the competition will now be a two-day affair to be played under lights with the pink ball. “We took this decision in order to enhance the interest level of school cricketers and aspirants,” CAB president Snehasish Ganguly said.
The CAB will also be introducing the impact player concept in the JC Mukherjee and NC Chatterjee (T20) tournaments next month.
