Captain Shreyas Iyer was obviously a bit relieved after Kolkata Knight Riders’ back-to-back comprehensive victories, this time against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Pune on Sunday. He also took the opportunity to clarify his comment regarding CEO Venky Mysore’s involvement in KKR’s team selection meetings.

Back on Monday, Shreyas, while explaining how tough it was to tell the players about their omission before a game, had commented: “It’s really difficult. I was also in that position when I started playing the IPL. We discuss with the coaches, while the CEO is also involved in team selection.”

That had stirred a hornet’s nest. But Shreyas on Saturday issued a clarification, explaining his previous comment.

“I want to clarify from the last interview... when I took the CEO’s name (for team selection meetings). I had meant he’s there to console the players who are sitting out. It’s tough for us as well while picking the teams,” Shreyas said at the post-match presentation after his team’s 54-run win against the Sunrisers.

The win on Saturday keeps the Knights’ hopes of making the playoffs afloat. The captain praised the team’s mindset. “The mindset we came with in this game was outstanding.

“We were positive and it was really important to win the toss,” the skipper said.
