Left-handed batsman Kirk McKenzie has earned a maiden call-up in the 13-man West Indies squad for the first Test against India in Dominica beginning on Wednesday.

The six-and-a-half-feet burly Rahkeem Cornwall and Jomel Warrican have also been recalled as the Windies spin options as left-armer Gudakesh Motie is nursing a lower-back injury. Shannon Gabriel, Alzarri Joseph, Kemar Roach and seamer all-rounder Jason Holder will form the pace attack of the side, while Raymon Reifer is another all-round option.

Uncapped batsman Alick Athanaze was retained in the squad after he had travelled to South Africa for the Windies' last Test series but didn't get a game there.

Both off-spinner Cornwall and left-armer Warrican last played a Test in Sri Lanka at the end of 2021. Cornwall, making his Test debut against India in 2019, returned on the back of an impressive showing recently in first-class cricket.

He was the top wicket-taker in the last first-class season with 35 scalps in five outings, including four five-fors.

Afghans on a roll

Calcutta: Afghanistan sealed the three-match series defeating Bangladesh by 142 runs in the second ODI in Chittagong on Saturday. They had won the rain-curtailed opening ODI via the DLS method.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz (145) and Ibrahim Zadran (100) forged a record 256-run opening partnership which propelled Afghanistan to 331 for 9 in their 50 overs.

Bangladesh lost wickets at regular intervals in chase of their target with only Mushfiqur Rahim (69) managing to put up a resistance. The first Powerplay accounted for three wickets and the hosts crashed to 72/6 in the 19th over.

Mushfiqur and Mehidy Hasan added 87 runs for the seventh wicket but the damage had already been done.

Brief scores: Afghanistan 331/9 in 50 (Rahmanullah Gurbaz 145, Ibrahim Zadran 100). Bangladesh 189 in 43.2 (Mushfiqur Rahim 69, Fazalhaq Farooqi 3/22, Mujeeb Ur Rahman 3/40). Afghanistan won by 142 runs.
