Jasprit Bumrah seems happy with his rhythm following his maiden five-for and best bowling figures (5/10) in the IPL versus Kolkata Knight Riders in Navi Mumbai on Monday.
At the same time, the India pace spearhead categorically mentioned he wasn’t at all worried with his form after being able to take only five wickets from Mumbai Indians’ first 10 matches in IPL 2022.
Bumrah not being too effective has been another reason behind Mumbai’s disappointing campaign, as for the second time in a row, they will not be part of the play-offs. Besides, inept batting on Monday brought about yet another embarrassing defeat for Mumbai in spite of Bumrah’s brilliance with the ball.
“Look, we prepare for the tournament and we have our methods. We don’t look at the end result,” Bumrah said at the post-match news conference after Mumbai lost to KKR by 52 runs.
“If you understand the game, you have to observe what’s going on, what the game is like, what situation you are bowling in, and for me personally, I’m very happy with my rhythm throughout the tournament.” Bumrah added: “I know there is a lot of noise outside that goes on, but it doesn’t really affect me. Because I’m not a person who judges my performance on what others think or what the experts are saying or whatever people want to say.”
Speaking of how he evaluates his own performance, Bumrah said: “I look at the methods that I have to follow and as far as the end result is concerned, it’s about how I contribute to my team, which can be done by sometimes bowling a good over or two as well.”
Mumbai are already out of the play-offs race, but according to Bumrah, the team is still searching for a “complete performance”. “We didn’t manage to close games, which happened a lot of times this season. We came very close and we crumbled in crucial scenarios,” the senior pro stated.
Aus vs India T20I series
India will gear up for the ICC T20 World Cup with a home series against Australia featuring three T20Is in September later this year.
According to a report in foxsports.com.au, “Australia will play a number of white ball series with home games against Zimbabwe, New Zealand, West Indies and England coming either side of three T20Is in India in September.”
The series will serve as a preparation for the showpiece event to be held in Australia in October-November this year. Next year, Australia is also set to tour India for a four-Test tour in February and March. India’s next assignment is a five-match T20I series against South Africa at home from June 9 to 19. (PTI)
