It would have been ideal for Jasprit Bumrah had India been able to register a clean sweep under his captaincy in this T20I series against Ireland, which also marked his comeback in almost 11 months.

Rain and a steady drizzle forced Wednesday’s third and final T20I at Malahide in Dublin to be abandoned without a ball bowled, as India had to remain satisfied with a 2-0 win.

For Bumrah and his team, not winning 3-0 was indeed frustrating, but the skipper acknowledged having fun leading this young Indian side. “It was frustrating waiting for a game to happen. This was something we did not see coming because the weather was fine earlier in the day.

“However, it’s been a lot of fun captaining the side and it’s an honour captaining these guys. They were enthusiastic and eager even when rain was around,” Bumrah, adjudged Man of the series, said during the presentation.

This was a kind of series that Bumrah needed very much in order to warm up for the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup, having recovered from the back injury. He finished the series with four wickets, was economical, had good control and could work up pace at well.

More importantly, his fitness has prevailed in this series as he was able to bowl his full quota of overs in both the games, showing no signs of discomfort whatsoever.

“All good. No complaints,” Bumrah stated when asked about injury and fitness issues.

That should certainly be of some relief at least to the Indian team management.

Like Bumrah, his pace colleague Prasidh Krishna, too, had to clear a test in this T20I series. A back stress fracture had ruled him out of competitive cricket for almost a year.

In his comeback series though, Prasidh did put in a decent showing and importantly, was among wickets. With four wickets in two games, his intensity and aggression seemed to impress the national selectors as they named him in the squad for the Asia Cup.

The Asia Cup berth has certainly been a big boost for the pacer and keeps him in good space. “Obviously, I’m pretty happy being picked for the Asia Cup. It’s definitely a gain for me, a big motivation,” Prasidh said earlier on Wednesday.

The Karnataka and former Kolkata Knight Riders quick is concentrating on the basics, which he feels carries a fair amount of importance. But he believes he’s yet to get into the groove.

“I want to do better. I’ve been running in well, but there’s more I can do. So, I’m trying to get into the groove,” Prasidh said.
