New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell will replace injured England batter Will Jacks in the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squad for the upcoming edition of the IPL.
Jacks, who was acquired by RCB for Rs 3.2 crore at the players’ auction in December last year, suffered a muscle injury while fielding during England’s second ODI against Bangladesh earlier this month.
“RCB have signed New Zealand’s Michael Bracewell as a replacement for England batter Will Jacks for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023,” said an IPL statement.
“Jacks, who was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury, was bought by the franchise for Rs 3.2 crore. His replacement, Bracewell, has played 16 T20Is, scored 113 runs and picked up 21 wickets. He will join RCB at his base price of Rs 1 crore.”
Honour for AB, Gayle
RCB will honour former players Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers for their contributions to the franchise. They will permanently retire the jersey numbers of the batting legends and induct them into the RCB Hall of Fame.
“We promised you during last year’s IPL that we’ll get @ABdeVilliers17 and @henrygayle together at the Chinnaswamy stadium. And yes, they’re going to be present at the #RCBUnbox event on the 26th of March 2023 for the RCB Hall of Fame induction,” the franchise tweeted.
Former RCB captain Virat Kohli expressed delight at playing alongside the legendary cricketers and said: “AB has truly changed the game of cricket with his innovation, brilliance and sportsmanship. I have played for 7 years with Chris and this is going to be the most special journey.”
