Rajasthan Royals' Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered his maiden IPL hundred in the competition’s 1000th game, but the night belonged to Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede on Sunday, thanks to Tim David's hurricane knock.

Courtesy Jaiswal, the Royals posted a massive 212/7 after winning the toss and batting first.

For Mumbai, the start was far from ideal as skipper Rohit Sharma, on his 36th birthday, perished early in their run chase. Mumbai found some hope through Cameron Green (44 off 26 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (55 off 29 balls), who brought up his second half-century of this IPL.

Surya was looking dangerous with his lofted shots over fine leg and the keeper’s head yielding him boundaries.

But Trent Boult, in his second spell, dug one in short as Surya tried to pull it over fine-leg. The timing wasn’t as good as Surya would have liked it to and Sandeep Sharma, following the ball, took a brilliant catch much to the relief of the Royals.

However, with 17 needed from the last six balls, David (45 not out off 14 balls) stood firm and hammered Jason Holder for three straight sixes off the first three balls of the final over.

Mumbai won the game by six wickets with three balls to spare.

Earlier, not once did Jaiswal look to be nervous when the Royals suddenly slipped from 72/0 in the eighth over to 103/3 in the 11th. Jaiswal didn’t even spare Jofra Archer, who did bowl a few very good balls even though he could take just one wicket.

Jaiswal departed not before the fourth ball of the 20th over, having taken the team total past 200.

“I was thinking right, planning right and hitting the right shots,” Jaiswal said during the innings break. “I have practised all the shots that I want to play."
