The mood in the Rajasthan Royals camp changed drastically in barely three days.

The Royals were a charged-up unit brimming with confidence after Yashasvi Jaiswal’s unbeaten 47-ball 98 hammered Kolkata Knight Riders into submission at Eden Gardens last Thursday night and ensured they remained in the playoffs race.

But on Sunday, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, their home ground, Sanju Samson's team suffered an embarrassing 112-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The loss severely dents the Royals’ prospects of making the playoffs.

In reply to RCB’s 171/5, the Royals put up a shocking performance with the bat to be all out for just 59. Their run-chase lasted only 10.3 overs.

The massive win gave a major boost to RCB's net run rate. After three losses in their previous four games, this win will help them breathe easy. If they win their remaining two games, they can fancy their chances of featuring in the playoffs.

For the Royals, they need to win big against Punjab Kings in their final league-phase game in Dharamsala on Friday in order to keep their prospects alive.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, RCB rode half-centuries from skipper Faf Du Plessis (55 off 44 balls) and No.3 Glenn Maxwell (54 off 33 balls) on a slow, sluggish pitch.

Given Jaiswal’s form, the Royals had every reason to be confident about chasing the target down. But the young left-hander, as well as his opening partner Jos Buttler, perished early, as the Royals wobbled at 6/2 in the second over.

Left-arm pacer Wayne Parnell (3/10) and spinner all-rounder Michael Bracewell (replacing Wanindu Hasaranga) ensured the going got worse for the Royals, who were reeling at 31/6 in seven overs.

A few blows from Shimron Hetmyer (35), thereafter, helped the Royals avoid the ignominy of being bundled out for the lowest team total ever in the IPL.
