England fast bowler Mark Wood rattled the Delhi Capitals top order with a triple strike as Lucknow Super Giants romped to a 50-run victory in Lucknow on Saturday.
The Capitals, chasing 194, were off to a good start but failed to keep the momentum going once Wood’s (5/14) scorching pace left them in disarray. Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi also claimed two wickets apiece as the Capitals managed only 143/9.
David Warner (56) tried to put up a resistance but Avesh dismissed him to end the Capitals’ hopes.
Earlier, the Super Giants rode West Indies opener Kyle Mayers’ brilliant 73 off 38 balls to reach 193 for six. The left-hander from Barbados made the Capitals pay a heavy price for spilling a regulation catch on 14.
Mayers — who made his IPL debut on Saturday and played in place of Quinton de Kock — smashed seven sixes and two boundaries during his sensational innings. He added 79 runs with Deepak Hooda (17), a partnership which rescued them after a poor start.
Mayers unleashed his fury on Mukesh Kumar with two massive sixes. There was no stopping him as he continued his assault on the spinners.
