Sanjay Bangar, Royal Challengers Bangalore's batting coach, thinks his team's batters were reckless in their shot selection in their defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Thursday.
Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis gave RCB a flying start, reaching 44 for no loss off 28 balls, before everything fell apart and the visitors lost by 81 runs chasing a 205-run target.
“I felt some of our batters, in hindsight, could have not attempted those big shots. That is something we will discuss with the players,” Bangar said at the post-match media conference.
“Basically, a lot of our batters were beaten on the inside edge. That’s something you don’t tend to do against bowlers who don’t turn the ball that much. Probably that was an error that they did under pressure, an error for us to work upon going forward. You must try and play as forward as possible. If you play even a little bit squarer it can be risky."
Replacements
The franchise — also hit by several injuries — on Friday named Wayne Parnell and Vyshak Vijay Kumar as replacements for Reece Topley and Rajat Patidar, respectively, for the rest of the tournament.
Topley suffered a shoulder injury while fielding against Mumbai Indians, while Patidar is yet to recover from a heel injury.
South African Parnell, who has played 56 T20Is, joins the squad for Rs 75 lakh. Karnataka medium pacer Vyashak has come in for 20 lakh.
