Delhi Capitals remain confident that Mitch Marsh — who will miss the first of Australia’s three ODIs against Pakistan, starting on Tuesday in Lahore, because of an injury — will be available for the IPL.

Marsh and David Warner are scheduled to join the Capitals on April 6.

Scans have shown that Marsh’s injury was a low-grade hip flexor strain. The backroom staff will continue to manage the all-rounder, with a hope of him returning to play later in the series, Cricket Australia said.

Earlier, Australia’s limited overs captain Aaron Finch had said that the all-rounder is unlikely for the ODI series against Pakistan after injuring himself at training.

“He’s injured his hip-flexor, we think, at training,” Finch said in Lahore on Monday. “We are going to have to wait and see what that looks like but I don’t think he’ll be available for the series based on how he was feeling yesterday (Sunday).

“He sustained that (injury) in a fielding drill. It was a high intensity, lateral movement drill and he bent down to pick it up one handed and went to throw and felt a twinge.”

The absence of Marsh will provide 22-year-old all-rounder Cameron Green with an opportunity to play.

“He will probably bat in the middle-order,” Finch said of Green. “We’re seeing that he’s a super-talented cricketer. He’s been quite consistent in his Test career so far. His impact with the bat can’t be underestimated. ”

The news of Marsh injury did send off the alarm in the Delhi Capitals but sources told The Telegraph that the injury was not as serious as was assumed earlier. He is expected to be available for the IPL, a source said.

The Capitals are already sweating over Anrich Nortje’s fitness. He had joined the Capitals camp before the IPL started and has been cleared of “serious injury”. He is unlikely to be available before April 7 though, when the Capitals take on Lucknow Super Giants.
