The InternationalCricket Council (ICC)’s recce team will visit the Eden Gardens for an assessment of the facilities at the stadium on August 5.

Calcutta will host four league matches and a semi-final. The recce team is currently visiting all the 12 venues across the country which will host the matches.

The Cricket Association of Bengal hopes to finish all necessary renovation by September 15.

The team, comprising security, events, and broadcast experts, have already made their assessment at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and is currently in Ahmedabad, which hosts among others the World Cup opener on October 5 and the final on November 19.

They have also visited three venues in the South —the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram, which will host practice matches.

They have so far expressed satisfaction with the facilities at the venues. The team has concentrated mainly on the operational aspect, including security within the stadium, the Player and Match OfficialAreas and the requirements of the broadcasters.

“They were here and it was the routine pre-tournament visit on the venue preparation. They have given us an all-clear, though we will be in touch with the ICC,” said a Tamil Nadu Cricket Association official.

The representatives are accompanied by Delhi CapitalsCEO Dhiraj Malhotra, who is operating as the ICC’s host liaison officer for the World Cup.

The team will then move to Delhi, Dharamsala and Lucknow before coming to Calcutta and Guwahati, another venue for the warm-up games. They will end their tour with a visit to Pune.

The BCCI has formed two sub-committees for the World Cup — venue supervision and the granting of infrastructure subsidies. The five office-bearers — president Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah, treasurer Ashish Sehlar, vice-president Rajeev Shukla, and joint secretary Devajit Saikia — will be overseeing the 12 venues.

The committee for infrastructure subsidies includes IPL chairman Arun SinghDhumal, former treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry, former apex council member Prabhtej Bhatia, and Karnataka State Cricket Association secretary A. Shankar, along with the five office-bearers.

Saikia will oversee the preparations for Calcutta along with Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram.
