A meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s board of directors was postponed to Saturday after most of the members voted in favour of the hybrid model during an informal discussion at the ICC headquarters in Dubai.
Late on Thursday, there was talk of the ICC, the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) having agreed on a reciprocal arrangement whereby Pakistan would not have to play their matches in India till 2027. India are scheduled to host the Women's ODI World Cup next year and the T20 World Cup in 2026.
The BCCI had so far been opposing a similar hybrid model for the PCB on the grounds that there was no security threat in India.
Once the ICC board clears the hosting of India’s Champions Trophy matches in Dubai, the operational modalities will be sorted out with the broadcasters at the meeting.
At a meet-and-greet session on his first day in officeat the ICC, chairman Jay Shah got the board’s overwhelming support for the hybrid arrangement. The majorityof the 15-member board ruled in its favour for the Champions Trophy.
Joint secretary Devajit Saikia represented the BCCI at the meeting on Thursday.
It is understood that the PCB's demand for a three-match T20I series against India at a neutral venue was dismissed by the board. Any other compensation would be discussed during the meeting on Saturday.
