Kolkata Knight Riders’ match against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on April 17 is likely to be rescheduled or relocated after Kolkata Police sent a letter to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) citing their inability to provide security for the game because of Ram Navami.
A meeting was held on Monday between the CAB, the BCCI and the police but no decision was reached. There’s talk that the match may be held on April 16 or 18.
“A letter has been sent requesting a reschedule of the match from 17th April as
Ram Navami is also celebrated the same day,” said joint commissioner (headquarters) Meeraj Khalid.
A senior police officer said since Kolkata Police have made “elaborate arrangements” for Ram Navami, it would be difficult to provide security for the match on the same day.
Rescheduling a match involves a lot of logistical issues involving the teams and the broadcasters.
The Gautam Gambhir-mentored side, who have won both matches, is currently in Visakhapatnam for the game against Delhi Capitals.
