India women team falter in tricky chase

India Women’s run chase lost steam as their Australian counterparts beat them in the third T20I by 21 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Following this win , Australia lead 2 - 1 in the five - match series Put in to bat, the Australians rode on Ellyse Perry’s 75 and Grace Harris’ 18-ball 41 to post a competitive 172 for 8. For India, pacer Renuka Singh (2/24) and leg-spinner Devika Vaidya (2/22 in 3 overs) impressed with the ball.

India were pretty much in the hunt in a tricky chase, thanks to opener Shafali Verma (52) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s (37) third-wicket stand of 73. But the hosts started losing the plot once pacer Nicola Carey dismissed Shafali. There was no way back for India once Megan Schutt sent Harmanpreet back in the 17th over.

Brief scores: Australia Women 172/8 in 20 ovs (E. Perry 75; R. Singh 2/24). India Women 151/7 in 20 ovs (S. Verma 52; D. Brown 2/19, A. Gardner 2/21). Australia Women won by 21 runs.
