The opening T20I against the West Indies at Tarouba on Thursday was Yuzvendra Chahal’s first India appearance in over seven months. It was also his first competitive game since the IPL, where he played for Rajasthan Royals last on May 19.
However, instead of thinking about missed chances, the leg-spinner considers himself lucky to be getting the opportunities to wear the India colours.
"We are professional cricketers. I was playing after two months... Last I played was in the IPL.
“In the end, it’s all about preparation. This is not an individual sport, you are playing here for your team. There are times when players have to sit out for a series or two, but it doesn't mean that they are not part of the team," the former state-level chess player said ahead of Sunday's second T20I in Guyana.
"I am very happy that I am getting to wear the blue jersey. It’s not that I am not sitting at home. I am travelling with the team and I am a part of the team.
"Cricket is a team sport. So, out of 15 people in the squad, only 11 can play. Also, I think series to series. What’s in the future is not in my hands. So, I'm not worried," Chahal added.
Chahal did a good job with the ball though in the first T20I, taking 2/24.
Having played under several captains since his international debut under Mahendra Singh Dhoni in 2016, Chahal feels his equation with whoever is leading the team doesn't change much.
