Suryakumar Yadav is set to miss the T20Is against Sri Lanka after suffering a hairline fracture in his hand. He picked up the injury while fielding during the third T20I match against the West Indies at Eden Gardens.
Sources told The Telegraph that he experienced pain and investigations revealed the injury. He will have to rest for at least three weeks.
Surya hit an unbeaten 31-ball 65 not out in the final T20I on Sunday and stitched together an unbroken 91-run partnership off 37 balls with Venkatesh Iyer to script India’s victory.
Deepak Chahar has also been ruled out of the forthcoming series, which begins in Lucknow on Thursday, after sustaining a hamstring injury during the Eden T20I. He has not travelled with the team to Lucknow.
The pace-bowling all-rounder had taken two wickets inside his first 11 deliveries before he pulled his hamstring during his run-up and retired.
The BCCI is not expected to name replacements because of the Covid-19 protocols. The squad now has 16 members without Chahar and Surya. Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been given a break, but Jasprit Bumrah returns.
