Rain and bad light conspired to reduce the opening day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh to just 35 overs at the Green Park in Kanpur.
Bangladesh, put into bat by Rohit Sharma, were 107/3 when bad light stopped play after lunch. It included the big scalp of Najmul Hossain Shanto for 31.
The Bangladesh captain fell in the second session which saw just the nine overs being bowled before bad light stopped the proceedings. This was followed by a downpour which brought a premature end to the day's play.
The toss was delayed by an hour because of a wet outfield caused by overnight rain.

India made no changes, fielding the same side which won the opening Test in Chennai. The decision was prompted by overcast conditions and a wicket which Rohit termed as a little soft with a bit more grass than the usual Kanpur surface.
Bangladesh though read the conditions differently and included three spinners on a wicket which is expected to be low and slow as the match progresses. The variable bounce on the wicket did make batting a bit tougher in the opening session.
Mominul Haque batted with composure against both pace and spin to remain unbeaten on 40 at the close of play.
For India, Akash Deep (2/34) was the pick of the bowlers while Jasprit Bumrah was unfortunate not to have a scalp or two. The Bengal pacer's twin strike in the morning session pegged Bangladesh back as both openers fell in succession after a steady start.
Zakir Hasan struggled to get going and eventually fell for a 24-ball duck but his partner Shadman Islam seemed more fluent until he got a sharp delivery from Akash Deep which nipped back to trap him leg before.

The morning session was eventful with a total of five reviews used up by both teams from just 24 overs. The entire Chepauk Test, in contrast, had only four reviews.
Ashwin got one to go with the arm from around the wicket in the second session and beat Shanto's inside edge to trap him leg before. There was also an appeal for a catch in the slips but the DRS confirmed that the ball hadn't hit the bat but was in line with the stumps. It ended the 51-run stand for the third wicket. Mominul and Mushfiqur Rahim survived some close calls with a streaky Mushfiqur outside edge going over the slips.
Attack on fan
A travelling Bangladesh cricket fan, Robi, was allegedly beaten up during the opening day in Kanpur. He suffered injuries on the back and abdomen and was rushed to a local hospital where he was reportedly out of danger.
