Young left-handed batsman Tilak Varma looks to take a leaf out of Rinku Singh’s book, especially when it comes to finishing games.
Varma had begun well in the first T20I against Australia on Thursday, only to play a poor stroke and throw his wicket away.
“I am learning how to finish games from Rinku as he is doing it consistently for India. I also want to finish well and hopefully, in the coming matches, I will be doing that,” Tilak said on the eve of Sunday’s second T20I.
Tilak, though, feels there’s no pressure of expectation on him and he also seems to be having some sort of clarity over his role. “There is no pressure of expectation on me,” he said. “I just have a role, and I have to fulfil that role for the team. If it’s in my arc, I will go for a shot or else, will just rotate strike. That’s my role
at No.5.”
Tilak’s aim is to remain consistent and continue with his good form. “Before this series, I played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy and my performance there was good. So, I haven’t really worked in any specific area, but my aim is to continue the good form,” said the 21-year-old, who was Hyderabad’s top run-getter in the national T20s with 288 runs at an average of 96.
