- Umesh Yadav replaces Shami in Australia T20Is
Team India suffered a setback just days before the start of India vs Australia T20I series in Mohali after pacer Mohammed Shami tested positive for Covid on Saturday.
The bowler, who was included in the T20I team after a long absence, was just looking forward to donning the team jersey.
He had last played for the team in last year’s T20 World Cup. After scrutiny for his performance, Shami had performed exceptionally well this year in the IPL for Gujarat Titans, helping the team lift the trophy in its maiden campaign.
His performance prompted calls from ex-players to include him in Indian team’s T20I lineup. The right-arm pacer’s exclusion from the Asia Cup squad didn't go down well with his admirers.
At last, the right-arm pacer got a call for the T20 World Cup squad as a standby player.
He was also included in the squad for the upcoming series against Australia which was set to begin on September 20. The BCCI medical team would decide on his participation in the series against Australia.
There is a high chance that he won’t be able to represent India against Australia.
