India botched up an easy run chase as Bangladesh rallied to tie the final women’s ODI here on Saturday. The series was shared 1-1.
Needing 10 runs from 19 deliveries with four wickets in hand, India looked on course to a comfortable win. However, the visitors suffered a batting collapse to lose their last four wickets within 16 balls in pursuit of a 226-run target.
India were all out of 225 with three balls to spare — they collapsed from 191/5 in the 42nd over to 217/9 in the 48th. The last-wicket pair of Jemimah Rodrigues (33 not out) and Meghna Singh (6), however, took the team close to the finish line.
With one needed off the last four balls, Marufa Akter had Meghna caught behind as half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana (59) and Harleen Deol (77) went in vain.
‘Pathetic’ umpiring
A livid India captain Harmanpreet Kaur termed the umpiring during the third ODI as “pathetic”.
“We were very surprised with the kind of umpiring that was happening. The next time we come to Bangladesh, we’ll make sure we have to deal with this type of umpiring and prepare ourselves accordingly,” Harmanpreet said.
Lashing out at the on-field umpires, Muhammad Kamruzzaman and Tanvir Ahmed (both locals), Harmanpreet, who hit the stumps with her bat in frustration and gestured towards the umpire after being adjudged lbw for 14 off Nahida Akter, added: “We controlled the game very well when we were batting, but some pathetic umpiring was done.”
Brief scores: Bangladesh Women 225/4 in 50 ovs (Fargana Hoque 107; Sneh Rana 2/45). India Women 225 in 49.3 ovs (Harleen Deol 77, Smriti Mandhana 59; Nahida Akter 3/37). Match tied.
