Shreyas Iyer is unlikely to play against Bangladesh in Friday’s final Super Fours match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

While Bangladesh have already been knocked out of the Asia Cup, Rohit Sharma’s India have confirmed their berth in the final.

Shreyas batted at nets for almost half an hour during the optional training session on Thursday and didn’t show any discomfort but the team management has decided not to risk him in the energy-sapping conditions. He suffered a back spasm during warm-up before their Super Fours match against Pakistan.

The latest setback, following back surgery for “nerve compression” or slip disc in April, ruled him out against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Sources told The Telegraph that the medical team is unlikely to risk him keeping in mind that the World Cup is only a little over a fortnight away. There’s a possibility that he may not take any further part in the Asia Cup.

Besides doing some stretching exercises with trainer Rajnikanth, it was learnt
that Shreyas faced throw-downs and batted against the net bowlers.
