Overpowering Chennai Super Kings in Chennai is a Herculean task. Sunrisers Hyderabad will attempt to do so on Friday. But do they have the firepower to tame Mahendra Singh Dhoni's lions?

Batting-wise, Sunrisers can still hope for a good outing, provided their big names — Harry Brook, captain Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen — get runs, but it is their bowling that can be the weak link against a Chennai side which has been batting well.

The MA Chidambaram Stadium has hosted two IPL matches this season, with the tracks used being friendly to the batters while also giving the spinners ample to feast on. Sunrisers are a bit hamstrung in the spin department.

The Hyderabad side has been using Washington Sundar and Mayank Markande as their preferred spinners in their last few matches. While Markande has done decently, taking six wickets from three games, Washington is wicketless after five matches.

Sunrisers do have England's Adil Rashid and Caribbean spinner Akeal Hosein in their squad, but playing either of them would mean dropping South African left-arm seamer Marco Jansen, who has been bowling well. If it is a horses-for-courses policy, Jansen might have to sit out.

Chennai though will be ready with their battery of spinners to test the Sunrisers. In fact, they may field a three-pronged spin attack of Ravindra Jadeja, a fit-again Mitchell Santner and Sri Lankan Maheesh Theeksana.

However, Theeksana's compatriot, slinger Matheesha Pathirana, helped Chennai win against Royal Challengers Bangalore with an impeccable last over and so might retain his place. That could keep Theeksana out.
