India’s loss to Australia on Sunday will not erase the amazing journey that they had till the final.
The Telegraph looks back at some standout moments:
CAPTAIN’S KNOCK: The Afghans did well to post 272/8, but India did better with skipper Rohit Sharma leading the charge with 131 off 84 balls, the win coming in 35 overs with 8 wickets to spare.
The TelegraphBOOM BANG: From 155/2 to 191 all out, Pakistan suffered an epic collapse, with Jasprit Bumrah (2/19) and the other India bowlers excelling. India cantered to the target in 30.3 overs.
The TelegraphINDIA INJURED: Hardik Pandya was the most important cog in India’s World Cup wheel. The all-rounder injured himself while bowling against Bangladesh in Pune and was subsequently ruled out of the meet. More than Pandya, it hurt India.
The TelegraphON PEAK 50: One more than Sachin and many more to come, Kohli touched a new high with his 50th ODI hundred as India piled on 397/4 versus New Zealand in the first semi-final in Mumbai. The Kiwis fell short by 70 runs.
The TelegraphON PAR, WITH MASTER: Kohli got his 49th ODI century, drawing level with his idol, Sachin Tendulkar, against South Africa in Calcutta. The match also saw some high-quality spin bowling from Ravindra Jadeja (5/33), but it got buried under Kohli’s run mountain.
The TelegraphSHAMI SPECIAL: New Zealand were cruising at 178/2 but Mohammed Shami rattled them with a scintillating five-wicket haul in Dharamsala. The Kiwis were all out for 273. With Kohli scoring 95, India chased it down easily.
