After defeating Australia in the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar series, India clinched the top rank in all formats, as per the latest ICC rankings.

Having already cemented their dominance in ODI and T20, India delivered a sweeping 132-run and an innings defeat to Australia in Nagpur, dethroning the visitors from the top spot in the Test format.

Captain Rohit Sharma has scripted history in being the first Indian captain to achieve this feat. Commanding a rating of 115 in the Test format, India is now closely followed by Australia rated at 111 and England, which has a rating of 106.

The India captain’s brilliant century against Australia catapulted the right-hander batsman from 10th to the eighth position.

The ongoing Test series between India and Australia has also launched India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to the second spot in the ICC Men's Test Bowlers Rankings. Ravindra Jadeja, who was recently inducted into the national team after a prolonged knee injury, claimed the 16th spot in the updated ICC Bowlers Ranking list.

Displaying a power-packed bowling performance, Ashwin sent the kangaroos packing as he took 5/37 in the second innings. In the first innings, Ashwin’s 3/42 coupled with Jadeja’s comeback performance restricted Australia to a total of 177 runs.

Jadeja added to the visitors’ misery with 5/47 on the first day , including the prized wickets of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. He went on to take 2/34 in the second innings where Australia’s batting order collapsed with a final total of just 91 runs, which is their lowest ever total on Indian soil.

Jadeja is now ranked number one in the ICC All-Rounder Rankings list in the Test format.

The only other team apart from India to achieve this gargantuan feat was South Africa, who made this record back in 2013.
