As an all-rounder, Bas de Leede is keen on being as effective as Ben Stokes and with the bat, he wishes to “time the ball” just as Rohit Sharma does.
With his all-round skills, the Dutchman aspires to do well in franchise cricket, but the IPL isn’t on his mind yet. The IPL auction is slated to be held next month.
“I’m not trying to give myself too much of hope about it. There are a lot of good players in that auction who are ahead of me, I feel,” De Leede, who has had his experience of The Hundred (for Northern Superchargers) and the International League T20 (for MI Emirates), told The Telegraph after the Netherlands’ training session at the Chinnaswamy Stadium late on Saturday evening.
“So, I’m not expecting anything from that. Not yet... Yeah, I will definitely put my name for the auction. Obviously, it will be a nice bonus if that (IPL contract) happens. It would be a very good opportunity for me... Maybe in a couple of years’ time I’ll be a part of it (IPL),” De Leede, who’s doing a business administration course from Rotterdam University, stated.
His father Tim, who was at the Chinnaswamy on Sunday watching his son in action against India, too had played in a cricket World Cup in India, way back in 1996.
