New Zealand left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel believes India are still a superior side when playing on spin-friendly tracks, though the visitors have already won the Test series with an unassailable 2-0 lead.
“India still have the wood on us when it comes to playing on turning wickets. And traditionally, the Indian batters have done well on turning surfaces,” Ajaz, who took a ten-for in the first innings when India and New Zealand last played a Test at the Wankhede three years ago, said on Wednesday.
“Their skill-set is very vast and for us as a spin group, it’s about being able to control what we can and making sure we can apply pressure for long periods of time and deliver the best balls on a given surface.”
To register a series sweep, the visitors need to adjust to the Wankhede’s red-soil pitch, where spinners should have more assistance than they had in Pune.
“The red clay is different, so we have to adapt quickly,” head coach Gary Stead said.
