For a young bowler to see victory snatched away from his team despite being in a position of absolute control, it can be quite heartbreaking and affect his confidence as well.

The Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers had done well to put their side in control against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens last Tuesday, till Jos Buttler single-handedly took the game away from them braving a hopeless situation.

Harshit Rana, too, was among the bowlers who had no answer to Buttler's assault that forgettable night for the Knight Riders. But the exuberance of youth drives the 22-year-old pacer to take that period of play as a learning experience, which could help him bounce back.

Harshit, in fact, is already thinking about the Knights' next game, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden this Sunday.

"Buttler was just extraordinary that night. Now, as far as I'm concerned, I'm working on the mistakes I had made in that game, and what I didn't do and should've done.

"These are all I'm focusing on as this kind of a mindset helps me rectify my mistakes. So, looking forward and moving on is what I believe in. As for what has already happened, I keep it behind," Harshit told The Telegraph on Thursday.

During the Knights' previous meeting with RCB in this IPL, Faf du Plessis was one of Harshit's two victims at the Chinnaswamy, though he and his colleagues couldn't get Virat Kohli out. "I'll go in with the plan and the strategies required to bowl to specific batsmen and bowl accordingly," Harshit said when asked about his approach for Sunday's game.

"It's not on my mind who I'm bowling to. I don't see the name of the batter... Will focus only on those aspects that help me back myself. And yes, difficult times help me learn and understand what changes my bowling requires," Harshit emphasised.

With seven wickets so far from five appearances, Harshit is on par with Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Vaibhav Arora. Economy rate-wise though, Harshit (9.50) looks better than all the other KKR quicks, including Mitchell Starc (10.54), the biggest of them all.

However, Starc's presence in the dressing room is obviously a boon for the youngster. "Whenever we have problems regarding any matter, be it during the game or at practice, he's always open to listening, advising and sharing his experience.

"You can ask Starc about anything. For a young player to be in such an environment where there's a player of Starc's stature, it's certainly beneficial," Harshit, who plays for Delhi at the first-class and List A level, stated.

Like all young players, donning the India jersey is his ultimate goal. "That blue jersey is my main goal. At present though, I'm not thinking much. Whenever or wherever I get the opportunity, I'm just waiting for that."
