The Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings may both opt to test their bench strength on Sunday, though the reasons driving them to do so would be drastically different.
Hardik Pandya’s Titans have already qualified for the playoffs while Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led CSK are out of the race. So while the Titans may give some bench players a chance in order to rest a few of the regulars, Chennai are also likely to try out new combinations, if only as an experiment ahead of next season.
The Titans will of course have the motivation of securing their place at the top of the standings. But Chennai would surely want to end the season with a flourish. So while on paper the match is only of academic interest, it may turn out to be quite an engrossing affair on the ground.
Also, pacer Lockie Ferguson may return to the Gujarat Titans XI.
