George Telegraph walked off the field in a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB)’s first division two-day meet tie against Kumartuli Institute at the Bengal Cricket Academy ground at Kalyani on Tuesday, citing inept umpiring.

Kumartuli were 189/6 in 41.4 overs at that stage in reply to George Telegraph’s 225. The game couldn’t continue as George Telegraph refused to play after a caught-behind appeal was turned down by the umpire.

“It was a clean catch and we have video evidence of it,” George Telegraph cricket secretary Anirban Sinha said. “A lot of decisions had already been given against us and after that incident, we decided not to take the field.

“We have given our version to the CAB, including the video evidence (of that catch). Let’s see what it decides.”

The umpires, on the other hand, have complained of “unruly behaviour” by some of the George Telegraph players in their report to the association. The report also alleged that those players hurled abuses at the umpires.

If George Telegraph are found to be guilty, they could be docked points by the CAB while their players concerned could be suspended for a game or two.

Foundation Day

Certificates signed by Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary will be provided to blood donors in connection with the celebration of the CAB’s 95th Foundation Day.
