Sourav Ganguly is all set to begin a new phase in life. And as of now there is no indication that he is joining politics.
Ganguly has clarified that he has launched a new app on education.
Speaking to reporters later in the evening, he divulged his plan and also rubbished rumours pertaining to his resignation as BCCI president.
The former Indian skipper had earlier posted a tweet on his social media announcing his new innings. However, he hadn't clarified on what he was set to embark upon.
"2022 marks the 30th year since the start of my journey with cricket in 1992. Since then, Cricket has given me a lot. Most importantly, it has given me the support of all of you. I want to thank every single person who has been a part of the journey, supported me, and helped me reach where I am today," Ganguly wrote on Twitter.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah had told news agency PTI that Ganguly hasn't resigned as BCCI president.
"The rumours doing rounds about Mr Sourav Ganguly stepping down from the post of BCCI President are factually incorrect," Shah issued a statement to PTI.
"We have some exciting times in the form of media rights coming up and my colleagues and I are completely focused on the upcoming opportunity and safeguarding the interest of Indian cricket," Shah further stated.
The moment Ganguly's post went viral, speculations have been floating around that he could be joining politics. In fact, some sources quoted by TV channels that he would be entering Rajya Sabha.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent dinner at his Calcutta residence triggered rumours Dada could be roped in by BJP.
Dada however, post Shah's visit, spoke of his close relation with Chief Minister, who is known to be a strident critic of the BJP.
The former Indian cricket team captain, also showered praise on minister and city mayor Firhad Hakim describing him as a person who can be approached by anyone at any time of the day.
"Our honourable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a person very close to me. I had approached her to help up this institute," he said at the inauguration programme of a private hospital in Calcutta.
The former southpaw added, "I am also very close to Firhad Hakim. He has been seeing me since I was in Class 1. He has been our family friend. All who approach him get help. I too have called him several times."
