Player of the final, Player of the tournament — Alyssa Healy has “seen it all”, but she never imagined, “not in her wildest dreams”, that she would smash a 170-run innings in the World Cup final.

“I’m 32 and I’ve seen it all. Our team sets out to win events like these and everyone is sort of keen to get out there and do just that,” Healy said, before adding: “Never in my wildest dreams did I ever thought I’d do something like that, so it is pretty cool.”

Congratulating the entire team, she said: “You probably couldn’t have asked for anything more. Proud of the batting unit. We have done some amazing things this whole tournament.”

Healy not only recorded the highest-ever individual score in a World Cup final (across men’s and women’s cricket), she also became the player with most runs in a single edition of a Women’s World Cup, bettering New Zealand great Debbie Hockley’s 25-year-old record. While Hockley had scored 456 runs in the 1997 edition, Healy aggregated 509 this time. Her opening partner, Rachael Haynes, too went past Hockley, totalling 497. Healy thought the award for the Player of the tournament should have gone to Haynes.
