Phil Salt’s career-best 88 not out off 41 balls gave England an exciting eight-wicket victory over Pakistan with 33 balls remaining in the sixth T20I in Lahore on Friday.

The result means that the seven-match series is now tied 3-3. The decider is on Sunday.

After two nerve-shredding, nail-biting finishes, England got their chasing mojo back and in some style. Chasing 170, opener Salt put on a 55-run stand with Alex Hales and then a 73-run stand with Dawid Malan.

The dew probably helped England as batting seemed to get a lot easier as the game wore on. All of the home bowlers went for more than 10 an over other than Shadab Khan, who picked up a respectable 2 for 34.

Earlier, another solid innings from Babar Azam (87 off 59 balls) helped Pakistan put on 169 for six in their allotted overs. He got some useful support from Iftikhar Ahmed (31).

Green worry for Cummins

Calcutta: Pat Cummins has revealed his trepidation at pushing Cameron Green, Australian cricket’s next big thing whose upcoming international schedule is packed, too far.

There remains caution around the 23-year-old’s bowling workload and while in Tests he is now largely unrestricted, Cummins admitted it is something never far from his mind.

“One my first thoughts is we don’t want to burn him,” he said on Friday, according to a report in Cricinfo. “And then there’s the call on his services from other teams.”
