Sri Lanka bowled out Afghanistan for 116 and reached the target in only 16 overs to win their ODI series 2-1 at Suriyawewa on Wednesday. The hosts reached 120/1 for a nine-wicket win.

Pacer Dushmantha Chameera, sidelined for eight months by an ankle injury, took 4/63 to be named Man of the Match. He also took six wickets in two matches to be named Player of the Series.

Fellow quick Lahiru Kumara, having recovered from a hamstring strain, dismissed both openers and Chameera took out four of the top six batters.

Leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga finished with three wickets after Afghanistan chose to bat first. Afghanistan were all out in 22.2 overs.

It was a poor effort on a good batting surface. Only three batters managed 20-plus runs amid too many soft dismissals. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was out early again, trying to hook Kumara in the second over and top-edging to fine leg.

Chameera got Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi out in the fifth over and Afghanistan was reduced to 77/6.

Brief scores: Afghanistan 116 in 22.2 overs (Dushmantha Chameera 4/63, Wanindu Hasaranga 3/7). Sri Lanka 120/1 in 16 overs (Pathum Nissanka 51, Dimuth Karunaratne 56 n.o.). Sri Lanka won by 9 wkts.
